Sunset photography
Bonneville Salt Flats senior sessions are generally scheduled in the evening. Sunset creates softer light and gives us the opportunity for changing colors and dramatic skies.
Bonneville Salt Flats Senior Photoshoot
Savannah traveled from Texas to Utah for a destination senior photoshoot at the Bonneville Salt Flats. She brought her friend Ella along for the trip, and we included the two of them together in part of the session.
The Senior Session
Savannah wanted senior photos that felt completely different from the locations available near her home in Texas. She traveled to Utah for a destination senior session at the Bonneville Salt Flats, one of the most recognizable photography locations in the state.
The wide, white landscape gave us a clean and timeless background for her senior portraits. We planned the Salt Flats photoshoot around sunset so we could use the softer evening light and capture the changing colors in the sky.
Savannah’s friend Ella joined her on the trip, so we also made time for photos of the two friends together. Savannah still received a complete senior photography experience, with Ella added into a portion of the session for relaxed and meaningful friendship portraits.
The Weather Cleared
The weather looked uncertain before Savannah’s session. Dark clouds moved through the area, and for a while it seemed like the sunset we had planned for might not happen.
Once we arrived at the Bonneville Salt Flats and began taking photos, the weather started to clear. The clouds created soft, flattering light at the beginning of the session, followed by warmer sunset tones later in the evening.
Weather at the Salt Flats can change quickly. Unless conditions are unsafe, a cloudy forecast does not always mean the photoshoot needs to be canceled.
A Mix of Modern and Timeless
Savannah wanted her gallery to include some of the blurry, movement-filled and slightly grainy images that are popular in senior photography right now. These photographs feel candid, energetic and a little more editorial than a traditional portrait.
We intentionally incorporated movement for some of the photographs while also creating plenty of clear, beautifully focused senior portraits.
The result was a balanced senior gallery with creative images that feel current alongside polished photographs that will still feel timeless years from now.
Bonneville Salt Flats Photos
Her final gallery included natural movement, classic portraits, creative images and sunset photographs across the Bonneville Salt Flats.
Savannah and Ella
Ella came along to support Savannah, enjoy the experience and be part of a few photos. Including a close friend can make the session even more fun while creating photographs that document an important friendship during senior year.
