What to Expect

  • Family sessions are playful and relaxed—I’ll guide you through prompts that feel natural and bring out genuine smiles.
  • Sessions typically last 45–75 minutes, depending on location and ages of little ones.
  • We’ll capture a mix of posed, candid, and in-between moments that show your family’s connection.
  • Don’t stress about perfect behavior—real moments are what make the best photos!

What to Wear

Coordinated (not matching) outfits always look the most natural. Think cohesive color tones and simple textures.

  • Choose 2–3 main colors and build from there—neutrals photograph best (cream, tan, sage, soft blue, blush, gray).
  • Add variety with layers and textures (cardigans, vests, denim jackets, linen shirts).
  • Avoid large logos, bright neon, or heavy patterns that draw the eye.
  • Comfort matters! Kids move best in outfits they can play in.

Tip: Lay everything out together beforehand—if it looks cohesive on your bed, it’ll look great in photos.

Preparing Kids (and Parents!)

  • Let kids know this will be fun—no need to say “smile.” I’ll make it happen naturally!
  • Bring small, mess-free snacks and water (avoid chocolate or colored drinks).
  • Full bellies = happy faces—plan to eat before your session.
  • Parents: focus on connection instead of perfection. Your kids look to you for cues—if you relax, they will too.

Location & Timing

  • Outdoor sessions are usually scheduled 1–2 hours before sunset for the best golden light.
  • Arrive 10–15 minutes early so we can start while everyone’s fresh.
  • Bring a blanket or quilt in neutral tones for sitting poses or cuddles.
  • For lifestyle sessions at home, open blinds, tidy a few main spaces, and embrace real life—no need to deep clean!

Optional Props & Details

  • Feel free to bring something meaningful—blanket, heirloom toy, flowers, or even your family pet!
  • If including pets, bring a neutral leash and a helper to handle them when needed.
  • Keep pockets empty (no phones, keys, wallets).

Day-Of Checklist

  • Eat before you arrive—especially for little ones!
  • Remove smart watches and empty pockets.
  • Bring water, wipes, and a hairbrush for quick touch-ups.
  • Arrive early, take a deep breath, and just enjoy your time together.

Kids will be kids—embrace it! The best images come from connection, not perfection.

FAQs

What if my kids don’t cooperate?
That’s okay—truly! I use prompts and play to get natural smiles. Some of the best moments come from giggles, cuddles, and even chaos.
Can we bring grandparents or extended family?
For groups of 10 or more, that’s considered an extended family session. Smaller groups (immediate family) are perfect for this type of session.
What if the weather changes?
We’ll keep an eye on the forecast and make a call 24 hours before. If rescheduling is best, I’ll find the soonest available date that fits.
When will we get our photos?
You’ll receive your fully edited gallery within about 2–3 weeks, ready to download, share, and order prints.
