The Salt Flats change throughout the year. Timing depends on light, wind, cloud cover, and moisture. I’ll guide you on the best time window based on current conditions and your preferred look.

Conditions at the Salt Flats + Backup Day

Conditions can change quickly. For out-of-state clients, I recommend scheduling two possible days. I block off two days for your trip so you have a built-in backup if weather or conditions aren’t ideal.

Where to Meet + What the Drive Is Like

The Salt Flats are about a 1.5-hour drive west of Salt Lake City. We typically meet at the westbound rest stop off I-80, then caravan to the shooting area together. I’ll send exact directions and a simple plan once we lock in dates.

Bonneville Salt Flats Session FAQ

When is the best time to take photos?
Golden hour is my go-to, but the best time depends on conditions (wind, clouds, moisture). I’ll recommend the ideal window.
What should I wear?
Neutrals/cream/black/denim photograph best. Flowy fabrics and clean silhouettes look incredible. Avoid neon and busy patterns.
Where do we meet?
Usually the westbound rest stop off I-80. Then we walk together to the best point for that day.
What if weather is a problem?
For out-of-state clients, I recommend two possible days. I block both days as a built-in backup.
How do I book?
Contract + retainer secure your date. After booking, I’ll send the plan: timing, meet-up spot, what to bring, and outfit guidance.
