Event Photography at This Is the Place Heritage Park
One venue can hold very different stories. I’ve photographed the North Capitol Summit and West High’s 50th reunion at This Is the Place Heritage Park in Salt Lake City. A business gathering and a school reunion bring people together for different reasons, and the photographs should reflect that.
For a conference, that can mean showing the setting, conversations and details that give the event its identity. For a reunion, the focus shifts toward the people and the connections that brought them back together. My approach is to plan around the event, then photograph the moments as they unfold.

North Capitol Summit: documenting the gathering and its details
The summit photographs show guests gathered around tables in a timber-beamed event space. Alongside the wider view, the gallery includes food and event merchandise—details that help tell the story beyond individual portraits.
Those photographs serve different purposes. A wide room photograph establishes the atmosphere and scale of the gathering. Detail photographs preserve the planning that went into it. Together, they give an organizer more variety for an event recap, internal communications or future promotional materials.

West High’s 50th reunion: a different reason to gather
I also photographed West High’s 50th reunion at this venue. A reunion calls for a different emphasis from a corporate summit: photographs of the people, opportunities for group portraits, and time to document guests enjoying being together.
When planning reunion photography, tell me which groups you want photographed and whether there are speeches, presentations or other scheduled moments. It helps to identify those priorities before the event so the coverage can fit around the celebration.
Planning photography for your event at This Is the Place
Start with the date, approximate coverage hours and the parts of the event that matter most to you. A short reception may need a focused plan for arrivals, group photographs and a few key moments. A longer conference may need coverage spread across presentations, breaks and networking.
- Share your schedule: include key program times and any parts that overlap.
- Identify important photographs: speakers, organizers, sponsors, family groups or reunion classmates.
- Include the details: signage, displays, table settings and other elements you want remembered.
- Explain how you’ll use the images: event recaps, social media, communications or personal keepsakes.
- Discuss deadlines: let me know before booking if you need highlights quickly.
Standard event photography is $150 per hour with a two-hour minimum. All professionally edited images are included in an online gallery. Nonprofit and multi-day events receive individual quotes.
